Desperate Housewife

I have just realised that the time it takes to unfrost a chicken is the time it takes to savour a nice cock!

Life is a Parade

Last Saturday I bought a movie. It was a movie that I've been meaning to buy for a long time because it was research material for my work. The movie was Party Monster and I got hooked.

The movie is the story of the Club Kids movement in New York. How Michael Alig took downtown New York by storm after the death of Andy Warhol and how the world followed.

He was hired as a Party Promoter for the club Limelight and Disco 2000 was born. A mix of Techno and House music, with the best NY misfits where "don't dream it, be it" seemed to be the motto and... lots of drugs.

His outrageous personality and out of this world looks (Lee Bowery, anyone) inspired others and the Club Kids where born. Selected by their uniqueness and their self expression, they went on to take NY and the rest of America by storm with their illegal parties in donut shacks, McDonalds, subway stations and even the inside of a truck and the subsequent tours to other American States.

The dream ended in tragedy (don't they all?) when Alig was arrested by killing one of his drug dealers with a hammer and then sawing off his legs and dumping the limbless torso in the Hudson River.

The story was quickly picked up by the press and a tell all book came along that was the inspiration for a documentary and a motion picture.

The author of the book (Disco Bloodbath) was James St. James. Because nothing is created out of the air, James St. James was Aligs mentor in the beginning, teaching him the tricks of the trade. The student got bigger than the master and this celebutant was relegated to the position of Michaels side kick as Club Kid #2.

If I always was fascinated by the likes of Lee Bowery and Boy George, I was fascinated to know the US version of it all. Specially because a lot of them are still alive and kicking and being very influential in the trend world of today.

The scene is still alive but not like before (there can never be another Studio 54!). Just think of the ravers in Germany or the BoomBox kids in London. This is where it all began!

Life is a Parade!! - Part Deux

Club Kids Hall of Fame. These are some of the originals!

Amanda Lepore - First high profile tranny that was celebrated amongst the Club Kids. She is the muse of David LaChapelle and still works on NY nightlife

Superstar Dj Keoki - Picked up on a nightclub with free drinks cards by Alig, was turned into his boyfriend and Superstar Dj overnight. He still spins.

Richie Rich - Brought from LA to join the fun, he is now, together with Trevor Rains, responsible for the hit fashion label Heatherette.

Walt Paper - He was Aligs PA and works now as a visual artist in NY. Have you ever wondered where Marilyn Manson got his ideas from?!

Party Monster - The Motion Picture

Seth Green, Macaulay Culkin, Chloe Sevigny, Marilyn Manson... these are some of the names that worked on the motion picture based on the Michael Alig story.

This is what got me hooked and made me do all of this research. This and Kabuki. By no means I want to glorify the actions of Michael Alig or is life style, that I strongly believe should be condemned but... everything starts with a dream and what a beautiful one it was!

And, btw, wouldn't mind being home alone with Macaulay Culkin, with that ass and legs!!! Hmm

Party Monster - The Shockumentary

This is the documentary that was made after the launch of Disco Bloodbath, by James St. James.

The hype of the press and the tell all of the original Club Kid inspired director Fenton Bailey to find out what, where and how it happened from the mouths of the people involved. Interviews with Alig himself before going to jail (where he actually admits killing Angel) and the rest of the pack gives you a clear picture of what was going on at the time.

Kabuki Starshine

This is how Kabuki, the make up artist genius of today, started.

Back then he was Kabuki Starshine and he was a showstopper everytime he appeared with the other Club Kids.

After Limelight and Michael Alig, he was a part of the performance group the Blacklips and he toured Europe as well.

Hairdresser on fire!

The last of Fashion Weeks. The season is officially over. People can go to their homes, the craziness is gone. For three months, at least.

And yes, I haven't forgot. The result of my searches: the hottest looking hairdresser backstage, Paris Spring Summer 09.
Have no idea about his name (nor he mines) but that's beside the point. If I was a masochist, he would be my future ex-boyfriend! What do you think?

By Sunday the 5th, the season is over for me. I skip the last day of shows cause I'll be doing 3 countries in just one day: France by morning, Spain by the afternoon and Russia at dawn. Look out, Moscow, here I come... if I can survive it, that is!

What the...?!

4 October... part deux!

Here I am again on the bus, already late for Chloé. Saturday, in the gardens of the Louvre. Can there be more tourists?! Can people move any slower? Does anybody have a fucking croissant? (I was hungry!! Breakfast was at 6 in the morning, remember?!)

I get there middle of the demo. Young, gorgeous, beautiful, no mascara mascara, no blush blush... just a flush and bushy no brows brows. Everything have to be there but you can't see anything. Think Brooke Shields, think Jerry Hall. "How's the foundation?" I ask a colleague. "Same old, same old." Right, got it. No sweat. I just be in my zone and do this, no prob.

I set up and immediately was ambushed by an agent of the girls "You are gonna do her make up. She wants you!" This was the girl that I had to do rushing on the last show. Apparently she liked my work. I was flattered. So I start and I do my brows and I do my eyes... "Charlotte, is this ok?". "Foundation is too thick, darling." has she was slapping the foundation off the model. "Take it off and do it again." O-Ok. So I make the foundation thinner. Is this ok? "Ergh... Send her to Lucia, darling... she will fix her." What the...?! What was wrong with it? I decided not to worry and have a fag instead. I was too tired to be bothered. Got the opportunity to talk to some old hairdresser friend from Portugal that was also doing the shows (and yes, he is also very cute!). It was great to catch up and have a little breath from home.

Fag over, back to my station where Charlotte was giving interviews. The woman is absolutely a media star!! And it was during her interviews that I found out what I was doing wrong!! Totally different texture of foundation. She wanted transparent and I was using full on. "Not the same old, same old" I thought to myself. Second girl comes along, I use the right foundation. Yes! I wouldn't be caught again. Beautiful skin, great brows... "She's too pale, darling. Have you used the mix, darling? C4, C5?" Y-Yes (I was using C2). What the fuck?!? Why nobody tell me these things?! If it's "same old, same old" it's suppose to be thick as spit foundation and slightly paler. Mother fuckers! I was way over it. By the time the girl came from rehearsal, another artist had taken her so I decided to go for another fag and prepare for bodies. I was way past caring so I just carried my moisturizer around and looked busy.

By the time the show was over it was 5 pm and I was starving! On my way to the bus, I see the photographer I met at Westwood. "I could eat me some of that" I thought!

The good guy

4 October

I have the early call time. This means Kenzo at 5 fucking A.M. Still, it's a great show and it's with Charlotte Tilbury. She is always fun so worth waking up at this ungodly hour... darling!

I get on the bus, go to the venue when I am told to stay in the bus because they need to talk to me before I go. "What?! What have I done?" - I was running through the week in my head to see if I was in some kind of trouble. So... apparently, I was booked for 3 shows that day (physically impossible since they overlapped each other) so, if I wouldn't mind, I was needed more on another show than at Kenzo. "Sure, no problem!". Why on earth did I have to wake up at 4.30 in the morning if the other show had only an 8 a.m call time?! It was not funny.

What was funny though, was the show I was on. Elie Saab and the key make up artist is one of the family. I love working with Gordon Espinet since it's always very relaxed and I had done Elie before so I knew what was going on. I knew that I was in for some make up make up. Not that shit of no make up make up and I wasn't disappointed. This was 90's super model! Think Cindy, think Turlington. monochromatic beauty with huge great eyes! There is a motto backstage that is "There can't be only one!" and in this case, the mantra continued. It was product on top of product, shade on top of shade to make it blend and melted onto the skin. The make up looked bloody gorgeous!

Of course, because the day hadn't started right, I was in for some more treats. Half the models were coming in late. The show is suppose to start at 11.30 am and the girls are suppose to arrive at 11.45. You do the math. But I'm rough and I'm tough. It's for last minute rushes that I'm build for and, once again, I didn't fail. Nice adrenaline rush to keep me awake. I still needed to do go to another show and I was late, already.

No idea how the clothes were, no clue about the line up. After I finished my last girl (3 in total... I was happy!) I had to pack my shit up and head on to Chloé. The day was half done.
